Hauppauge tv tuner for pc software#
If you are the kind of person who prefers to "pack light", this is probably not the software you want to install. One thing I will say about the packaged WinTV software - There is a LOT of software that that installs. All seems to work fine, although I will probably find myself removing all WinTV software, since I am familiar and happy using Beyond TV instead.

For mere curiosity sake, I did install all the the OEM software that came packaged with this card, and tested everything. In the past, I have always used "Beyond TV 4.9" and this product is fully compatible and works just great with this software. Bear in mind that I am not a huge TV fan, but enjoy being able to view TV on my workstation on occasion while working on misc programming projects etc, without disturbing the rest of the family. This turned out to be a very good purchase and I am very pleased with the results and performance. Replaced my old analog card with this one (Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1600 internal HDTV card). It stopped working following the digital TV conversion (no surprise - needed a digital tuner now). Owned and used an MSI analog TV Tuner PCI card for years. What the heck is that? If you want frustration I have more. My Cable History Channel was 44, on this stupid card it is now 2254. So you have to map out on a piece of paper so you know what channel is what. Channel line up stinks because it lists it as 2001 WCYU 89.6 which to me means nothing, and your channels are not 3,5,10,12 ect. But i will say that the picture clarity is quite well, the supplied remote lacks some functionality, and is better to use the mouse at times. I WOULD NOT recommend this card to anyone who is looking for convenience, you will be disappointed. My next PC will be a MCE, for I miss the ease of choosing what shows to record. I feel that I wasted $89 on a card with a terrible recording scheduler. In the future I think I will go out and buy a DVR and hook it up to the computer and avoid this fun I am having. Installation was a breeze, the only trouble I had was I put the coax on the wrong post, but once I figured out it was fine. I am somewhat disappointed with the provided software and the lack of incompatibility with MCE.

If you want just the basic channels and don't mind manual recording, this is for you. You have to manually enter time time and channel you want to record. winTV will scan your clear QAM channels with ease, but do not expect to see a guide of shows or times. So I now ordered a converter box from my cable provider and I will end up using the IR blaster to record my shows. So I could not get my Discovery, Food Network ect. I am using Digital Cable, so after scanning channels 2-158, it found only local channels. (Media Center Edition) So I installed the winTV that came with the package. I found out right away that this card will NOT work with my MCE. I was spoiled by the fact that you could easily pull up the guide and choose your program to record.
